This was reported by Ruslan Beketaev, Minister in charge of Economy and Financial Policy of the Eurasian Economic Commission, during the meeting of the Advisory Committee on Intellectual Property. The discussion of coordinated approaches to intellectual property rights infringements on the Internet started at the EEC’s venue this year.
"The EEC's work in this field will results in concluding an agreement within the EAEU which will lay down basic principles upon which the Union States’ legislation in the field of combating intellectual property rights infringements on the Internet will be harmonized," Ruslan Beketaev noted.
Besides, attendees of the Advisory Committee’s meeting were presented with a report on monitoring law enforcement practice in the field of protecting the intellectual property rights in the EAEU for 2020.
"Over the past five years, more than 80 mln units of counterfeit goods have been identified in the EAEU countries. Along with that, if during the period from 2016 to 2019 there was a general trend towards an increase in intellectual property infringements in the EAEU, then in 2020 13.6 mln units of counterfeit products were identified, which is 11% less than in 2019," Ruslan Beketaev stressed.
In particular, this is due to activities being intensified by the EAEU countries’ authorized authorities to counter illegal trafficking of goods in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Furthermore, some issues of possible mutual representation, including recognition of an electronic digital signature when receiving public services in the field of intellectual property in the Union countries as well as legal regulation on protecting intellectual property rights in relation to second-hand goods were considered.
